Spontaneous stay at Disney

Both Husband and I had Sunday and Monday off, so decided a small trip away. To Orlando and to Disney!  We were celebrating soon to be 3 years of being married and also his 1000 hour party. (He just broke 1000 hours of flight time).

A huge storm broke out after we drove
up here, which looked amazing. So I had to test out the panoramic feature of my phone.  We stayed at New Orleans French Quarter, and we had extra magic hours to enjoy magic kingdom for a few hours after it closed to the general public.

Then, the next morning a breakfast of beignets!  The real reason to stay at French Quarter.

Kinvara 4

I got a call today.  The shoes I ordered were in!!  I was so excited to get to the store to pick them up.  New Kinvara 4s.  They are so pretty and bright.  Naturally I was very excited to go for a run in them.  Perfect timing as I had planned a 3 mile run for this evening.

Pretty!

I wanted to take it easy, but I was so excited.  I feel like these are my first 'real' running shoes.  Silly, I know.  These just made me want to run fast!  So excited with my time, an average of 8:05 min/mile.  And, my first ever sub 8:00min/mile!!  Wow. Miracle shoes?!  Probably not, but they pushed me for one run!
Fastest time yet!!

Random Day Off

Started out with a 5 mile run around the lagoon.  Fantastic run, very happy with my times, especially with bridges involved! (Florida's hills).

Up and over the bridge.

Then a play with the silly Dog.  He ended up jumping in his toy box while trying to 'clean up' his toys.
Silly Dog.  Trying to be all cute for treats.
Then, an afternoon of reading and eating my favorite candy of the moment, Skittles!!
Yes, I am reading World War Z.  It's very good!

Good day off in the middle of a work week.  Almost like a sick day without being sick!

10 mile sunday

What a good Sunday.  Started out with a 10 mile run.  Which I really did not want to do.  The alarm went off at 6am, and I kept thinking, 'No, no I can do it this evening....'  But Husband was good, and told me I had to get up (I had promised him a 30 minute back massage if he made me go run this morning).  So out we went, Husband riding his bike next to me, pushing me along.

After the first mile I was already dripping with sweat.  After mile two, Husband looked at the current weather, and I was told it was only 73F...... with 100% humidity.  I thought of cutting my run short at this point, but then realised it can only get less humid!  I was about to turn around at 4.5 to head home, but Husband said just go a little further.  I pushed through to 4.7 miles, then turned around, to head back.  I got back to my street with 9.5 miles left, and as I predicted I needed to hit the 10 mile point, so continued to finish off that half a mile.

It was an extremely tough run, with such high humidity, but I am very happy I finished it.  My splits:

Not too bad!  Considering I was trying to go easy, I was happy.  (This run was anything but easy though!)

After the run, we headed to Starbucks for a refreshing Ice Caramel Macchiato (love those things), and then to the beach with Dog.
Husband and Dog

Then, to rest on the couch in my latest gadget - compression socks.  Seeing how they go with recovery.  It is way too hot to wear them while running this time of year.

Relaxing with Dog
I bought the cep compression socks, from an amazing store I found in Orlando - fit2run.  I could spend so much money in there!  Oh wait, I already did - just on socks!

Happy days!

very happy run

I had such a good run this afternoon.  It was pouring down with rain when I got home, and Husband had promised to ride his bike next to me while I ran.  I whined, "You promised..." He called my bluff.  So we went.  It wasn't raining too heavy when we left, and actually stopped for most of the run.  It felt so refreshing and cool compared to all my other runs and I felt good.  Again, I am still trying to run by feel and not look at my watch.  I peeked a couple of times.

My pace for the 5 mile run.  I am super happy!! The first two miles felt really good and comfortable, the third was not too bad.  I tried to push myself to stay 'on pace' for the fourth (not that I was too sure what my pace was) and the fifth mile I just wanted to push myself so I would finish with my fastest mile.  Very happy that the middle three were all around the same pace!

So.  One thing became clear to me after my run:  Tempo/interval runs work!!!  (Cooler, less humid temperatures also help -  Garmin says 77F and 83% humidity, but Intellicast.com says 75F and 94%...?!?!?!... Rain helps then!)

Keep on going. I will be super happy to run the Tower of Terro 10 Miler at an 8:30 pace, so I need to be able to do this for another 5 miles....  Keep on going!

tempo number three

Just got back from a run.  Literally.  Still dripping in sweat, luckily the Dog is giving me a bath right now!

Super happy with the run.  I did not want to do a hard run, but it was actually very good!  I'm very pleased!!  Not as humid this morning, only 79%, but a little warmer at 73F.

Again, I tried to run by feel, not by the watch.  I do love having my Garmin so I can look at the results after and see my progress.

Next on the schedule is a 20 minute tempo.  Not sure if I like that idea of going from 5 minute intervals to one long 20 minutes.  But I have been reading about starting out slower, and building to that pace, so I think that is doable.  Maybe.  We will see.
A storm from the other day.  One thing I like about Florida - the afternoon thunderstorms!
